Tell Massachusetts About Your EV Charging Needs
Updated July 26 to add third public hearing and how to submit written comments!
Last year’s climate law in...

Almost two years ago, we wrote a blog about the first report produced by the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Coordinating Council (EVICC) in Massachusetts. Now, EVICC is gearing up to write its second report – and wants to hear from you! There are four public hearings, in person and virtual, coming up for you to share your experience and ideas. If you have an EV or are thinking about getting one, you probably have an opinion on what the state could do to improve EV charging infrastructure.
EVICC is an interagency council made up of representatives from all the state agencies that touch on the issue of charging for electric vehicles (EVs). It’s chaired by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and includes staff from the Department of Energy Resources, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Public Utilities, Department of Transportation, the MBTA, and the Division of Standards, just to name a few. EVICC was created by the 2022 Act Driving Clean Energy and Offshore Wind and is tasked with developing “strategies resulting in an equitable, interconnected, accessible and reliable electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Massachusetts.” You can learn more on the EVICC webpage.
The second assessment, which EVICC is working on now, will focus very specifically on where the Commonwealth needs to be in 2035 with EV charging infrastructure to meet our climate mandates, where we are now, and how we get from where we are to where we need to be. In light of all the work the federal government is doing to dismantle and slow progress in this space, this work is more important than ever.
EVICC meets monthly, and meetings are always open to the public and include a public comment session. The next of these regularly scheduled meetings will take place on April 2, from 1 to 3 pm. In addition to these meetings, EVICC is now hosting four public hearings to hear directly from the public.
